PT. Bank Syariah Mega Indonesia memulai perjalanannya dari sebuah bank umum bernama Bank Umum Tugu. Pada tahun 2000, Para Group, mengakuisisi Bank Umum Tugu untuk mengembangkannya menjadi bank syariah. Dengan keluarnya surat ijin dari Bank Indonesia yakni Ijin Prinsip No. 5/39/DpG/BPS tanggal 13 Oktober 2003, Ijin Operasi No. 6/10/Kep.DpG/2004 tanggal 27 Juli 2004 serta Ijin Perubahan Nama No. 6/11/Kep.DpG/2004 tanggal 27 Juli 2004, maka lahirlah PT Bank Syariah Mega Indonesia. Bank ini kemudian resmi beroperasi secara syariah, tepatnya pada tanggal 25 Agustus 2004.

Sejak awal kehadirannya, Bank Syariah Mega Indonesia melangkah menjadi bank syariah yang lebih terbuka. Kami senantiasa memberikan pelayanan yang memuaskan bagi semua kalangan nasabah, sebagaimana tagline kami: “Bank Syariah Mega Indonesia untuk kita semua”. Ini diwujudkan dengan terus memperluas jaringan dan menambah beberapa kantor cabang baik di Jakarta, Bandung, Semarang, Surabaya, dan kota-kota lainnya.
